07:20 pm - Raw Spirit Festival 2008!
I know it seems early to buy tickets for an event in September of 2008, but after the last raw Spirit festival, I simply couldn't wait. If you wait, the prices increase, and your chance of fining accommodations decrease tremendously. At RSF 2007, there were over 3000 raw vegans! It was amazing! I and two of my raw friends have already bought our tickets and booked our hotel. I suggest you go ahead and charge it now rather than waiting until it's too late. i really want to meet all of you at RSF 2008! Please bookmark the page below.

06:45 pm - <3 mexican food
Hey everyone, I've been silent too long! Sorry. :\ Thought I'd share a couple pictures with you. These are just cameraphone pics.

Lunch at work! It's so hard staying raw while working at a grocery store. Samples of cookies, cake, cheese, and chips are constantly tempting me!

I made tacos last night from this recipe and OMG!! They taste JUST like the real thing. Those spices I crave ALL the time.. This is going to be a weekly occurance. I also had it for lunch and finished it up for dinner. I mixed in the tomato and let it sit overnight in the fridge.. so good..

This fajita recipe is also highly recommended. I warmed it in a low oven with the door cracked while it was marinating and ate it in lettuce leaves. Forgot to take a picture. I've always felt raw onions are too strong but the lemon juice softened them nicely. I wish I had a proper dehydrator to make tortillas!

12:19 pm - Raw Desserts?
anyone have any tasty recipes for raw snacks/ desserts?

Coconut Haystacks

3 cups unsweetened shredded coconut
3/4 cup coconut butter
1/2 cup agave nectar
1/2 cup carob powder

freeze for 1/2 hour before serving

I made them last night. I like them.

(I'll check the recipe when I get home to make sure that's right. If it isn't, it's pretty close)

Also, I've been craving bread and tostito chips, and don't have a dehydrator. If someone can help me out, or has any suggestions for getting over cravings, I'd appriciate any input.

05:48 pm - Garlic, and what not to do with it
I wanted to share an anecdote that you all might find... well, freaking hilarious.

So, like I mentioned before, I'm just starting raw, right? And I don't cook, anyway (never learned how). I decided that I wanted to make something simple and tasty, so I opened my RAWvolution book to his raw version of french onion soup, which calls for something like this:

1 1/2 cups coconut water
1 1/2 cups pure water
1/2 yellow onion
2 cloves of garlic
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup nama shoyu

blend till smooth

So that looked good to me. Only problem was...

and here's the funny part (or tragic, you decide)

I thought that the whole head of garlic was one clove. Oops. So my recipe had about 40 times the garlic that it should. I told my yoga teacher about it, and she said that I hadn't made soup, but a biological weapon. I agree: I still can't open the trash can.

Now I know better.

The difference between one clove and a whole head of garlic: edibility of the food.

NOTE: I did the recipe from memory, it may not be right, but there you have it. Sorry no picture. You wouldn't want to see it anyway, it wasn't pretty.

07:13 pm - Newbie
I'm currently a vegetarian, and and preparing to "go raw" for the first time. My yoga class is doing a raw food challenge next week, and I was doing some research as to what, actually, a raw food diet was, and ended up buying a book "RAWvolution."

Now, it's going to be rough for me still living at home with parents that aren't going go go with me on it, but are supportive of the decision. I'm in the process of buying the toys (dehydrator, juicer, Spirooli slicer, etc.) because I want to do a raw food diet right, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest any resources or could give me any tips on living raw when those around me aren't.

This is kinda neat. It's interesting to compare the quality and amount of food to how healthy and happy they all look.

I've been making this "pudding" when I get home from work. It would make a fast breakfast too.

2 bananas
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
pinch of salt
cinnamon to taste

Mash bananas with potato masher and/or fork. Don't blend, you want the chunkyness. Add remaining ingredients and mix. Devour!!
